Dorset Flag

What do you think of the new Dorset flag?

Please leave comments for or against the new design.

On the 16th September 2008 the Dorset County Council announced the result from the design competition of Dorset's new flag. Four designs were short listed, they can be seen at this website (www.flaginstitute.org/index.php?location=11)

3,868 votes were counted and the current Dorset Cross won with 54%. Previous attempts at choosing a flag were poor, but with the news of the 2012 Olympics sailing events being held at Weymouth support grew in finding Dorset a new flag.

I personally think it is a necessity for a county to have its individual flag. But saying that I'm not keen on the new design. I think its plain and the design is not experimental in any circumstances. Could there be a new campaign in time for 2012?

Don't get me wrong I love Dorset I have lived here for 14 years, I am proud of my county and I strongly believe we should represent it with a flag but, I also strongly believe the current flag is not the one to be!

Dave White who led the campaign has some very good ideas and explains that the gold colour was taken from the famous Gold Hill in Shaftesbury. The final decision was taken for the Dorset flag out of the four finalists because it represented the gold and yellow coat of arms and the gold and sunny disposition of the Dorset people. Now the idea behind the flag is great but a good design has to follow.
