Nothe Fort is located at the entrance to Weymouth Harbour and comprises a labyrinth of underground passageways and outdoor areas with stunning views of the Jurassic Coast. It is constructed on three levels, which are easily accessed by means of a lift. The Fort is filled with displays, mammoth guns and cinema areas that chart the history of this large and magnificant Victorian structure, which is now one of Weymouth's major attractions and a venue for a wide range of events.It is a great day out for the whole family, not just military enthusiasts, but beware the Fort is haunted!
Nothe Fort is located at the end of the Nothe Peninsula on the opposite side of the harbour to the main beach and is well signposted in the town.
It houses the museum of coastal defence, and has 70 rooms of exhibits, models and artefacts. It also has great views and heritage architecture.
Every Second and Fourth Sunday of the month, Nothe Fort's Artillery Volunteers show off their musketry and cannon handling skills with several big bangs.
June 6th-7th is D-Day Anniversary Weekend, in addition to the Fort's normal displays there will be groups of British & American re-enactors on parade. Hands-on activities will include helping a bomb disposal team to unearth some unexploded bombs.
Also on 6th June there will be Proms in the Fort with the Light Cavalry Band starting at 7.30pm. Listen to the military band in an open-air concert at Nothe Fort. An evening of music, singing and flag waving finishing with fireworks. Visitors are encouraged to dress up for the occasion and relive the patriotic times. August 8th-9th Military Festival. A colourful multi-period military festival involving re-enactors from the Nothe Fort Artillery Volunteers, the Fort Cumberland Guard and the Royal Sussex Living History Group. Throughout the day there will be live firing displays with cannons, muskets and rifles - so plenty of loud bangs. Normal entry prices apply.
August 18th-31st Matchstick Fleet. Be amazed at the detail and accuracy of the scaled matchstick replicas of modern warships on display. The whole of the Fort's exhibition area is filled the exquisite models that have taken one man a lifetime to build. Again normal entry prices apply.
