Radipole Lake Weymouth.

The lake, within a large SSSI nature reserve is unique, being within 400 yards of both the sea and town centre. Access is therefore easy with routes from the north via A354 from Dorchester, from the east via A353 from Wareham and B3157 from Bridport and the west.

A large pay and display car park is adjacent to the water and there are many hotels and guesthouses within walking distance. Weymouth Railway Station is just a few minutes walk away.

The RSPB administer the Nature Reserve and care must be taken by anglers not to disturb the birds and wildlife of the reserve. This is vital during June when some birds may still be nesting.

The water has a restricted number of pegs and fishing must be from these areas. It is planned that further pegs be introduced in the future, dependent on funds being made available. New platforms have been installed and an angling society has now been formed to monitor fishing on the lake.

The fishing can vary, the lake is more well known for the shoals of large Roach (30+lbs), also Carp, Rudd. Perch, and Dace as well as some large Pike can also be caught and unusually for a freshwater lake, a number of soft lipped mullet enter the water from the sluices controlling the lake level from Weymouth harbour which is adjacent.

A three rod rule applies and tents/bivvies are allowed. Barbed hooks are not permitted, anyone caught fishing with barbed hooks may face a fine from the Environment Agency. Day ticket means dawn to dusk, so no overnighting on day tickets.

This is a sensitive site and anglers are requested to ensure they take all their litter home and disturbance of the other lake users is kept to a minimum.
