Description:
Situated adjacent to the stunning Dorset coast near the beautiful and famous Chesil Beach is Abbotsbury Swannery. The site is unique because the Swannery is the only place in the world where the visitor is able to walk through the heart of the nesting colony of Mute Swans.
At any one time there may be up to 1000 Mute Swans on the Dorset site. Mute Swans are friendly and are very happy to have visitors, unlike their angry cousins the River Swan. Indeed during the hatching season from about the middle of May to the end of June you can walk among nests that are full of hatching eggs and newly born fluffy cygnets.
The Swannery is open every day from 10am to 5pm/6pm from March 21 to November 1, with last admission 1 hour before closing. There is a mass feeding everyday at 12 noon and 4pm. The award winning Living Willow Maze is a new attraction for this year.
There is ample free parking, a coffee shop and public toilets and baby changing facilities situated both at the entrance and within the coffee shop. There are no public toilets in the Swannery. The site is fully accessible to disabled visitors. No dogs may enter the Swannery.
The Swannery is closely linked to two other attractions in Dorset located nearby, The Subtropical Gardens and The Children's Farm with its Great Barn, both of which are featured within the Guide2Dorset site.
