Description:

The award-winning Dorset County Museum in the heart of Dorchester. It includes Jurassic Coast Geology Gallery, atmospheric Victorian Hall with Roman Mosaic floors and Thomas Hardy's Study and original manuscripts. Dorchester Gallery tells the 6,000 year history of Dorchester. With Dorset Writers, Archaeology (including Maiden Castle presentation), Social and Natural History Galleries. Interactives, Audiovisuals, free audioguides and Museum trails for children.

A celebration of the great tradition of natural history collecting in the South West of England, including the bicentenary of Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species

The museum is housed in a beautiful, gothic-style building, which dates back to 1884, and is a great place to visit for visitors to the county and for local people to find out more about where they live.
