Southbourne Beach, Bournemouth

Description:

Southbourne is located East of Bournemouth and Boscombe, approached via Southbourne coast road. From the A338 follow signs for Southbourne at the Cooper Dean roundabout.

There is a pay-and-display car park at three sites on the Southbourne Coast Road.

Southbourne is considered one of Bournemouth's quieter beaches, has a Blue Flag award and is popular with bathers, due to the fact that it has no sudden shelves or rip currents. This sandy beach has good access facilities and a Kid zone scheme to ensure parents find lost children quickly. The R.N.L.I. have a lifeguard unit here housing the Southboune Sailing Club, a café and toilets.  Due to excellent facilities this beach is a good place to relax and unwind.

The beach is reached by cliff paths or via land trains from Boscombe or Fisherman's Walk during holidays.

The beach is a short distance from the Southbourne Grove shopping centre. There are refreshment kiosks and a local Surf School. Deck chairs and beach huts are available to hire. The huts are available to hire on a daily basis or pre-booked for a week. Call - 0845 055 0968. The beach's most popular feature is its seafront restaurant bistro which is open all year round. There are ample toilet facilities, baby changing, plus disabled.

Public Transport run a yellow open-topped number 12 bus stopping at Southbourne Coast Road in the Summer. From nearby Belle View Road, catch numbers 22, 31, and 68.

Dogs are not permitted on the Blue Flag Beach. Dog exercise areas are provided on nearby stretches of beach, the nearest being Fisherman's Walk. Peak season, dogs on the promenade must be kept on a lead.

Places to visit on a rainy day are:-

Littledown Leisure Centre, off  the A338 spur Road at Cooper Dean. There is a large pool with two slides, baby pool, gym and 47 acres of park land, children's play and picnic areas.
