Description:

Overcombe is a sheltered beach on the east Dorset coast, a mile from Weymouth  on the A353, at Overcombe corner. The car parks on the beach charge, but there are other car parks along the road for free.

The water here is clean and safe and the beach is usually quiet. The swimming, although a pebble beach, is shallow and safe for children. This is one of Dorset's main windsurfing and water sport centres.

There is a cafe on the beach and another a short walk up Bowleaze Hill. There is also a good family pub with a large garden, post office, bus stop and a shop selling a comprehensive range of goods.

There are toilet facilities in both cafes and the pub, plus public toilets on the road.

Public transport is good with a bus service running every 15 minutes to and from Weymouth.

Dogs are allowed on the beach, but people are respectfully asked to take litter away with them.

A note of interest is the close proximity of the Lodmore Nature Reserve  and Weymouth Sea Life Park. They are a short 10 minute stroll away from Overcombe Corner.

Places to visit on a rainy day are:-

Weymouth Sea Life Park  where you can see penguins, otters, sharks, marine secrets, rays, conger eels, play area , adventure trail. All day entry. Open daily from 10am.  Tel: 01305 788255.

Cineworld, a nine screen cinema at the heart of Weymouth, showing the latest films with an adjoining car park. Open daily.  Tel: 01305 768759.
