However it now seems that those pin-thin sinewy limbs are just as bad following the latest furore over Madonna's honed to the max muscles. The 50 year-old pop queen's exercise schedule is the stuff of legend with reports of a two-hour daily workout coupled with a strict macrobiotic diet which cuts out most sugars and fats.

It is rumoured that the strict regime contributed in part to the failure of her marriage. Ex Guy Ritchie allegedly told mates that getting close to his former wife was like "cuddling up to a piece of gristle."

Also, according to a nerw survey, the majority of British men would agree. When asked which celebrity's body they admire most, only 3% of women - and not a single one of the men asked - named Madge.

Barbara Cox, the founder of local healthy-eating company Nutrichef  based in Poole said of the macrobiotic that "It's not a calorie-controlled diet and it's high in carbohydrates, but you don't tend to gain a lot of weight. It gives you good energy intake but it looks like Madonna may need to increase her intake of nuts, seeds and fats to make sure she's getting enough omega oils."

Another nutritionist Manjula Cote based at Lilliput Health said that like most diets one regime does not suit all. She went on to say, "Some people might look great on a vegan diet for example whereas someone else will look washed out . Like most things, any exercise or diet taken to extremes is not good for you."

According to the celebrity body survey most women admire Jennifer Aniston. Men on the other hand, prefer curvy girls, naming Kelley Brook as their ideal celebrity body.
