Description:
Bournemouth's Roar on the Shore !Last night Guide2Dorset braved choppy seas, a freezing wind and catering that was interesting to say the least, to bring our viewing public a first hand account of the world record attempt to let off 110,000 fireworks in less than 60 seconds off the beach at Bournemouth. However if you blinked you might have missed it, or what you thought was it.
We among thousands of others were left wondering whether it wasn't just a damp squib. Apparently up to 150,000 people stood shoulder to shoulder on the shoreline to witness the event which in our estimation lasted no more than 2 or 3 seconds and resulted in a big ball of light that remained just above the waterline, didn't rise very far up into the sky and then just as quickly disappeared. Forgive the pun, but is was over in a flash. If you blinked you could have missed it.
Despite what all those on board actually saw, Ali Robertson, display manager for Fantastic Fireworks who were behind the much-hyped event, believed that Bounrnemouth should have been proud of what was achieved.
She went on to say that the fireworks did exactly what they were supposed to and while the success or otherwise of the world record attempt still needs to be ratified by the Guiness Book of Records, she believes they broke the existing record. Please read the book and let us know who currently holds the record for such an event.
Not one person with us last night new exactly what was going to happen, but apparently there was a 6 minute display of fireworks, which we all saw, followed by the short burst of light that was in fact the world record attempt.
We then left Bournemouth and sailed back towards Poole Harbour and watched the fireworks there from the close vantage point that was our pleasure boat, and I have to say they were fantastic by comparison.
