Weymouth after campaigning is to have an ‘Olympic' cycle way along a stretch of the bypass.
Dorset County Council have announced that this will be one of several cycle paths to be built on the Southern side of the by-pass, between the Wessex and chafeys roundabouts and in time for the 2012 Olympics.
The work is due to start on Monday, costing in the region of £215.000 and will take around twelve weeks to complete. Mike Kelly of the Dorset Cyclists network is delighted with the decision.
A further three cycle routes are planned before the Olympic games in this part of Dorset, as part of a £850.000 Olympic Legacy Cycle Network package, funded by the local transport plan.
Mr. Kelly concluded he was glad that at last the cycle network of Dorset's Weymouth and Portland was finally being pieced together.
