Description:
A group of Dorchester students have been responsible for bringing new life back to a Weymouth garden centre.
As part of an initiative to encourage more wildlife at Goulds Garden Centre, they helped to plan and design a waterfall planting scheme.
The students from Kingston Maurward have been very involved with new developments at Goulds.
Goulds Garden Centre plant manager Sue Butterworth told the Dorset Echo: “We were very impressed by the quality of the designs and the enthusiasm of the students in this project. “The students had to plan their designs around our existing mature trees and the demands of an exposed site.”
The scheme was designed by student Jo Derrick, who is studying Garden Plants and Planting Design at the college. Jo’s design incorporates plants from New Zealand and Australasia.
Anthony Gould, who is the garden centre director, also told the Dorset Echo: “We are very pleased to have this opportunity to work with Kingston Maurward. “We were delighted to further strengthen our links with our local college who have such an excellent reputation in horticulture.
“Our customers have watched the waterfall slowly transform over the past few months and we believe they will appreciate the end result.”
Local firm Terry White Landscaping has also been involved with the project.
