DJ Chris Evans to Open Dorchester WellworthsFamous Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans is so keen to open Dorchester's new Wellworths store he has apparently offered to bring his own scissors and ribbon for the job. He told listeners to his radio show he wanted to be part of the launch of the former Woolworths branch being set up by former manager Claire Robertson who started as a Woolies Saturday girl.
Ms Robertson who is one of 20 staff returning to the Dorchester store, said the radio and TV presenter would be very welcome. She also said "If Chris wants to do it , then I will give him a ring when I know the exact date of opening - it is going to be either the first or second week of March, we'll be deciding over the next few days - Chris's Radio 2 team has told me to ring as soon as I know and they will see if he is free."
Since the Dorset Echo first featured plans to reopen the store it has become a national craze. Ms Robertson said "I thought it would be picked on my a few newspapers - Its been great and, at this time when things are so depressing, it's nice to have something light-hearted and positive to come out it."
She added "It's great publicity for Dorchester. I'm pleased I can give something back to Dorchester as well." On Thursday 12th February Ms Robertson travelled up to London to appear on the BBC breakfast TV sofa. Also earlier in the week crews from the BBC, Chanel 5 News and Sky TV came to the store to interview Ms Robertson and the staff. She has also been interviewed on Radio 1, Radio 5 Live and other radio stations as far away as Birmingham, as well as ITV WestCountry and Meridian.
Wellworths will sell many of the lines that the former Woolworths branch stocked before its closure at the end of last year. The new team is backed by a consortium.
Guide2Dorset wishes Ms Robertson and her staff every sucess in their new venture.
