Description:
Financial Fears for Future of Weymouth ClubAlan Lewer the outgoing manager of Weymouth has spoken of his fears for the financial future of the cash-strapped club.
Gary Calder, the Chief Executive is leaving the Terras as players have not been paid this year and significant investment is required to keep the club alive. Mr Calder told the board " I'd look after today and next Saturday."
Mr Lewer believes the Dorset club needs neds up to £150,00 to survive. The club has issued a million shares at fifty pence each in an effort to raise much needed funds, however if that strategy is unsuccessful the Terras face the prospect of administration or perhaps liquidation.
Mr Lewer said "The situation is that the club has to raise £15 - £25,000 by Tuesday, but that really a drop in the ocean", added Lewer, who went on to say "The players have been magnificent - they can only come out of this with credit. Hopefully someone will come in and I wish them all the best with it. As long as football is saved whatever league they play in, that's what the fans want - which is only right."
