Bridport

10 August 2011

Description:

This Dorset Town lies just a few miles from the coast of West Bay where the River Brit flows out to the sea.  Bridport nestles among the hills of West Dorset, one of the gateway towns giving access to the Jurassic coast.

The shopping centre has an old fashioned feel with some traditional food shops still to be found.

A number of events take place here throughout the year including the Bridport Food Festival, Carnival, The Melplash Show and West Bay Day.

Local producers trade at Farmers Markets in the Arts Centre on the second Saturday of every month and are present at the street markets on a Wednesday and Saturday.

Bridport has a strong literary community and hosts the Bridport Open Studio weekend at the end of August and the May Dorset Arts Week providing showcase opportunities for local artists. The Fea Newbury collection of paintings is on permanent display in the Town Hall. There is also a museum dedicated to the towns history.

The Bridport prize is Internationally acclaimed and celebrated with a November week of literary Events.
