Weymouth FC Appoints Two New Directors

17 March 2009

Description:

Local businessmen Paul Cocks (pictured) and Shaun Hennessy have been appointed directors of Weymouth Football Club after their rescue package was accepted by the club’s board yesterday.

Following this decision, finance director Ian Wilson will remain on the board, but chief executive Gary Calder and director Mark Golsby resigned from their positions and left the club.

A Press conference has been announced for tomorrow afternoon (2.30pm) when the full board will be revealed at the Wessex Stadium.

Following on from a Press conference at the Wessex Stadium when the full board will be announced, a fans’ forum will be held the same evening at the same venue.

Cocks said: “It’s been a very busy few days but we are delighted to clinch the deal. We are confident the club will survive and there is no risk of it going into administration however, cash will be very tight for a while. We need everyone to get behind us and turn out tonight and support the team. Manager Alan Lewer will now hopefully be able to go and strengthen his side against Burton. We will be relaunching the share sale and hope as many fans as possible will invest in the club. Share certificates will be issued to the people that have given money so far but those that have changed their minds need to contact the club in the next 24 hours and we will reimburse them with their money.”

Meanwhile, Lewer was delighted to hear some positive news after hearing about the new investment but is under no illusion about the mammoth task that lies ahead of his patched-up side at the Wessex Stadium tonight (7.45pm).

Burton Albion, Blue Square Premier leaders will be looking to extend Weymouth’s losing streak to seven games this evening.

The Weymouth manager said: “I have players in mind but whether I can get them here in time is another matter.

“This news has been a major plus and gives us a boost before we face a very good footballing side in Burton that I have a lot of time for.”
