Film shot in Weymouth and Portland grants wish to starring extras

17 March 2009

Description:

Extras who starred in the film "The Boat that Rocked," a film that was shot in the Weymouth and Portland area look set to be granted their wish for a special advance screening.

Tickets for a regional premiere of the film at Weymouth Cineworld were snapped up within fours hours after going on sale earlier this month, meaning several people who appeared in the film during the shooting in Weymouth and Portland missed out.

Stuart Crane, spokesman for Cineworld in London apologised to the extras who were unable to get tickets but said the premiere, which is expected to raise around £2,000 for the RNLI, was never intended to be reserved for extras and crew.

Mr Crane said: “Because it was shot in Weymouth and Portland we wanted to do a charity premiere, not something for the extras and crew but to help a local charity. We thought it was a great opportunity to do something in Weymouth and Portland as the town had helped them get the film done. The problem was it got misconstrued and some of the extras thought it was a show that was for them. We never set out to upset anyone. I can understand it’s a very exciting thing if you have starred in a film or been an extra but this was always meant to be a charity thing.”

Mr Crane added that Cineworld were working with Universal Pictures and Weymouth and Portland council to try and arrange another advance screening for those involved in the film.

He said the second screening would be after the regional premiere on March 27 but before the film went on general release and could be free for the extras and crew who helped out on the film.

He said: “Cineworld are working to try and help out all of the crew and extras who were involved and we are trying to resolve something. We are trying to sort something out for them with the help of the local council and Universal Pictures. We want to thank the extras and crew for their patience and we hope to announce something soon.”
