Christchurch Food Festival has that sweet smell of success

12 May 2009

Description:

Large numbers of foodie fans turned out for the Chrsitchurch Food Festival, enticed by the sumptuous smells and irresistable aromas wafting through the streets of the town.

The High Street was lined with stalls selling food of all types, with some traders travelling from France, Italy and Germany.

TV chefs, Lesley Walters and Gary Rhodes officially opened the festival  on Saturday, speaking to the gathering crowd from the balcony of the Mayor's Parlour.

Lesley said: Since I arrived in Christchurch  I have felt so at home. This event gets bigger and better every year and I am so proud to be here as the patron."

From savoury pastries, olive and creamy cheese to decadent sweets, cakes and puds there was something to cater for every taste and craving.

People filled the cooking marquee to watch the demonstrations given by Lesley, Gary and fellow celebrity chefs, the Tanner Brothers. Also many chefs from locally based restaurants gave demonstrations over the two days.

Events continue this week  with special menus and offerings at a host of restaurants around the town.
