AFC Bournemouth fresh bid confirmed

28 May 2009

Description:

The Cherries co-owner confirmed that a fresh bid had been received for the club. The bid was put forward on Monday and is the only one on the table.

Mr Baker is hoping to receive one further offer in the near future as the club's long-running takeover saga possibly nears a final conclusion.

He tod the Echo that "We want to make a decision in the earliest possible time frame. There's one bid on the table and we do expect another one. There's no reason to think it won't come in."

An earlier bid from a consortium headed by former Cherries director Adam Murry was withdrawn last week. However with the arrival of a new offer, Baker's hopes of sealing a quick deal may now bear fruit.

The latest move came after it was revealed that some of the club's players were considering invoking a 14-day notice rule, which would allow them to leave the club on free transfers as they are still waiting to be paid the remainder of their salaries for April.

In order to stave off a potential player exodus Mr Baker has asked the Professional Footballers' Association to assist in covering the wages shortfall as well as this months wages which are due on Friday.
